Database Of Leveled Books
Every title listed here can be found in the CleveNet database (of which the Elyria Public Libraries are a part). While all of the titles may not be found in each of our branches, they CAN be obtained by placing a hold through the Elyria Library catalog. (Of course, you will need to have a library card to do this!)

Level J
As we move into the 2nd
Grade levels (J-M), the titles become far too numerous for me to set up as I
have in the above table. Rather, I will scan one level at a time and post it
here as a PDF file.
The database is taken from the
seminal work by Irene Fountas & Gay Su Pinnell, "Matching Books to Readers".
Once again you will find it possible to reserve all of these from the Elyria
Public Library.
[NOTE: Please disregard the little
checkmarks you find on the pages. These were from a time when I was attempting
to include these titles in the above table. In the end it simply became too
unwieldy an objective to accomplish!]
The following will link you to a comparative table that
will hopefully
help you to better understand how Guided Reading levels compare to the
more traditional basal readers of the past.
Fry's Instant Word List The
'100'
First Grade words comprise 50% of everything we will ever read! I present this list
here grouped as they are introduced instructionally to the children. I also
include an alphabetized list. For our
second graders, this alphabetized list will be a part of the personal dictionary
they will use as a writing resource.

In order
that you might have a printed copy
of each of these, on each page I have provided the option to print it
out as a PDF file. However,
you will need to have Adobe's Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to be
able to do this. Should you need to install this program, I have provided the link to their FREE
download.![]()
